Laura Linney is an American actor, who became well-known for her performance of strong but vulnerable characters. Linney was born to an unmarried single mother who worked as a nursing assistant. Linney became interested with theatre in summers spent with her father, who was famous. She was a student of acting at Brown University, and later at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway following her graduation, she debuted in films within two years and on television in the year after. In the years since she has appeared in a variety of film, TV and stage plays. There have been numerous awards in her long career. This includes four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Though she was awarded numerous prizes over the years, theater has always been her first interest.
